Basic skills insurance
The basic skills insurance is one of the workers insurance. As the Occupational disability insurance , it pays you a monthly pension in the event of a benefit. However, the trigger for benefits is different from that for occupational disability insurance. Because, as the name suggests, you will be paid the agreed monthly pension if you have lost one or more basic human skills (e.g. seeing, speaking, sitting). The insured basic skills differ depending on the provider.
This makes basic disability insurance a serious alternative to disability insurance. In the following article you will find out how the basic skills insurance works exactly and whether this labor insurance could also be useful for you.

How basic skills insurance works
As already mentioned in the introduction, basic skills insurance works similarly to occupational disability insurance. There is also a monthly pension in the event of benefits up to the agreed end of performance age. However, when it comes to basic skills insurance, it is not decisive whether or not you can still carry out your last job.
Loss of one or more basic skills is crucial
The loss of elementary basic human skills is the trigger that triggers the payment of the agreed basic skills pension.
In addition, with really good providers, the basic ability pension is paid out even if you need care or dementia.
One or more basic skills no longer exist
Depending on the provider, one or more basic human skills no longer have to be present in order for the insured pension to be paid out. In addition, there are major differences in which basic skills are insured with the respective providers. More on that in a moment.
Duration of the loss of basic ability
Here, too, there are significant differences between insurers and tariffs. Many insurers require that the insured basic capacity must expire for at least 12 months, before a benefit is paid. Better providers only require, for example, only 6 months.
Which basic skills can be insured
As already mentioned, this depends very much on the choice of insurer and the basic capability tariff. Below we have listed insured basic skills directly from the conditions of what we consider to be a very good insurer. This should give you a first impression of which basic skills are generally insurable.
See : You can see a maximum of 5% in each eye. Or your field of vision is no more than 15 degrees from the center in each eye.

Do not spread the right arm in front of and sideways for 10 seconds at shoulder height, hold and turn.
If ONE of the basic skills mentioned were to be lost with this insurer for at least 6 months, you would receive the insured basic skills pension.
Additional modules possible
Often you can also insure additional skills, for example:
- the psyche (e.g. illness from severe depression for at least 12 months)
- Driving license (if this is withdrawn for health reasons)
- lifelong foster pension
For which people the basic skills insurance makes sense
As a rule, occupational disability insurance is still the first choice when it comes to fully covering your workforce. But in many cases an occupational disability insurance is simply not possible because, for example
- There are already too many previous illnesses (especially previous mental illnesses)
- The occupation practiced in the disability insurance is classified in a high risk group and thus the contributions are unaffordable
People with pre-existing conditions and skilled trades
This is where the real advantage of basic skills insurance becomes clear. Because through this, people with various pre-existing illnesses (especially psychological ones) and people with professions that are physically very demanding receive good protection of the workforce at an adequate price.
Fewer health issues than with disability insurance
In particular, the health issues are by far not as extensive with some providers as with occupational disability insurance. For example, we have already been able to accommodate many people with basic skills insurance who had absolutely no chance with occupational disability insurance.
You have to pay attention to this when you graduate
As already mentioned, the most important thing when choosing the right basic insurance is the terms and conditions of the insurer. Which basic skills are insured? When does the basic skills insurance pay out exactly? Is the loss of one basic skill enough or does it have to be several?
